Feed
Efficiency
The
ratio of nutrient input to beef output.
Feed
intake
The
amount of feed consumed by an animal.
Female
reproductive performance
Refers
to a females capacity to produce developing embryos and also to her capacity to
give birth to a live calf and to ensure a proper postnatal maternal environment
for normal calf growth.
Finishing
Farm
The
farm or facility where an animal completes its growing and finishing phase
before slaughter.
Fixed
and random effects
When
a sample exhausts the population, the corresponding variable is fixed; when the
sample is a small (i.e., negligible) part of the population the corresponding
variable is random.
Founder
animal
The
earliest known ancestor of an animal.
Functional longevity Longevity corrected for performance. Culling for low productivity is disregarded since performance is used as a different selection criterion. Only culling for health problems or other non-production causes is taken into account.
